Bambaataa is a large black metal sculpture, a triangular shape, containing three cube shapes of light gray mesh metal. On one side it shows a mask-like face or like emoticon of sorts, whose eyes and mouth let sunlight through. This creates holographic projections of geometric shapes on the other side. Although it is a sculpture, in line with Lester’s oeuvre, it has a photographic and cinematic character: the appearance will always be different according to the lighting situation and the viewer’s point of view. The statue is initially placed near the Grote Marktstraat in The Hague, exactly on the southeast – when the sun goes down, it is, like a spotlight, directed on the screen.
